Code Name: The Cleaner

There aren't a lot of films that make me laugh out loud. My son and I had several huge laughs while watching Code Name: The Cleaner with Cedric The Entertainer. This movie was a fresh comedy based loosely on martial arts oriented spy thrillers. The concept worked well for me.

This movie starred Cedric the Entertainer as an amnesiac, Jake Rogers, who wakes up in a hotel room next to a dead FBI agent. Is he a Spy or is he a Janitor? As his memory comes back he is introduced to an interesting cast of characters. Is Diane, (played by Nicollette Sheridan) his wife? Is Gina (played by Lucy Liu) his girlfriend? As the story evolves, Rogers true identity slowly comes back to him as he interacts with a variety of interesting characters.

The interesting thing about this comedy is the fact that there is an element of drama to it. Although the dramatic elements are very shallow, the overall concept is interesting. The movie plays like a real spy movie with the suspenseful soundtrack and suspenseful writing. This acting consists of high quality performances, especially by Cedric the Entertainer and Lucy Liu who carry the film. To pull off side-splitting comedy while maintaining and interesting plot requires talent. This movie delivers that talent.
